The Wonderful World of Liquid

September 4, 2005 by Sleeping Princess

Woot! It has been sometime since I’ve written anything here. I’ve been neglecting my blog like leftover food kept in the fridge. Very abstract and irrelevant comparison, but anyway, *paisehla*

What am I into these days? Nothing much really, except for my newfound passion towards drinks. Not liquor, no thanks… just, drinks.

Ya know, the silly me had taken into standing in front of giant coolers, looking at rows upon rows of chilled drinks, discovering the delightful colours of packagings, the varying types of drinks, the diversity of flavours and… the difference in prices.

Some of the things I noticed in the revolutionary world of chilled drinks:

  1. I can understand that our plain and ordinary milk from the cow udder are also available in chocolate and stawberry flavour. But who in the world would camouflage milk in corn, melon and banana flavours? Blearghhh! If anything, banana flavoured milk makes me wanna puke.
  2. Soybean milk is good enough as it is. Corn flavoured soybean milk sucks big time.
  3. Tea based drink such as iced lemon tea, lime tea, mango tea are gaining popularity. It might be healthier than fizzy drinks, but it is just as sweet, minus the fizz.
  4. Green tea based drinks are mushrooming too. Products such as plain green tea, green tea with lemon, green tea with peach, green tea with asamboi are appealing to those weight watchers, it seems.
  5. Plain fruit juices are replaced by chewable fruit juices with bits of pears or bits of aloe vera. Gives you something to chew on while you drink. Or something to choke on while you least expected.
  6. Coffee drinks come in caffeinated or decaf, in a variety of latte, cappucino, mocha, milk coffee, arabica, and so on, and so forth.
  7. Soft drinks are “improved” with zests of lemon, to give a “lemony” taste to the otherwise plain old original flavour.
  8. It seems like mint is in fashion too. Drinks, often from the tea or coffee genre are available with a hint of minty flavour.
  9. Drinking water comes in plain, mineral, reversed osmosis, sparkling, flavoured…. did I missed something?
  10. Heaty? No problem. There are aplenty of “leongcha” or “lengteh” or cooling chinese herb drinks conveniently tinned for you. Pick a choice from cincau, chrysanthemum tea, water chestnut, winter melon and guiling gao. Instant cure.

I have tried at least one type from every single thing that I discovered, sometimes resulting in stomachahe and the urge to empty the bladder. *LOL*

*Drink brands are not included for fear of lawsuit*

As if … *Snickers*
