Animal Day! - Croc Farm
Its an animal day for me the other day! We went to the crocodile farm and the zoo! Both of them are along the highway exit of Ayer Keroh, Malacca. Ya know, its kinda nice to look at animals after facing all those people for so long, heheh.
The entrance fee for the crocodile farm is MYR5.00 per adult. Once you pay and proceed, you will be greeted at the entrance by two stuffed crocs, together with a brief history of them. Mind you, I think that those two are REAL crocs… or at least they were. Here are some FUN facts that I can remember about those two:
The bigger of the two, as it stated, was named “Johnnie”, with a length of almost FIVE freaking meter and as obese as crocc should. (Now before you start thinking less about me, let me clarify that I’ve never seen such big reptile other than those in Hollywood production.) Johnnie is a Malacca boy, captured somewhere along the Malacca River.
It so seems that “Johnnie” used to be a very ferocious and virile croc that he dominates the entire female harem of the farm, killing any other suitors with his strong tail swipe or “libas” as the word in Bahasa Melayu stated it. However, he died of ” merangkak di atas simen sebanyak dua hari kerana stress”, or loosely translated as death due to crawling on the cement for two days due to stress. What a pity.
The other croc died of pneumonia it seems. Only a metre long. Dwarf species, not significant.
Due to the fact that we were visiting in weekdays, we were 1:20 outnumbered by the crocs, no shit. The air were so thick with the stench of cold blooded reptiles that my hair is standing at the back. Heck, I am a bit afraid of those crocs that seems to lie around like logs in their exhibit.

This is the sight that greets me no matter where I look. And it freaks me out.
Since this is no “Lawatan Sambil Belajar” (Learning Trips), no gamekeepers care to explain what is what and the only thing we got is from what the signboard says. From what I’ve gathered, crocs are animal that:
- Is cold blooded (duh!)
- Able to live until the ripe old age of 120.
- Will usually die of some disease before the age of 120. (This includes STRESS, pneumonia, high cholestrol, cancer, etc, etc)
- Will be able to mate at the age of 11-15.
- Lays eggs. (DUH!)
- Eats insects, small fishes, land animals, and small mammals. (Err, does that include humans?)
- Does not practice monogamy, as the males will fight and the winner takes all, and losers, err… I have no idea.
- goes through PMS stages during mating season.
Pay MYR10.00 for three chickens and you can feed the crocs with it. ALIVE. As if I am not freaked out enough.
