ZenXin Organic Park @ Kluang

December 4, 2007 by Sleeping Princess

Yoohoo! Yes! Yes! Finally both midterms are done and I can take a breather right now before continuing on the express train to study for the finals. Gonna write about my long overdue Muar trip to visit JingYi and ending up in Kluang.

The place was actually very spacious, with more land allocated to growing vegetables, but you know how lazy am I.

Dragonfruit tree, or plant. They do look a lot like helicopter’s propeller to me.

They have this gondola-like thingy where a creeper plant grows atop.

Those creeper plants are a fruit of some sorts.

Green, green fruit.

Do you know the name of this fruit?

If you are lazy to walk, you can always rent a bike. But you have to push it uphill first though

They have this flower nursery too!

Rabbits for sale. Do you pet them, or eat them?

This idunnowhatisitcalled is cute!

This is how they pplant those organic vegetables: In closed space, supported by strings (?)

They even sell the fresh produce here, but tough luck for those wishing to find even one dragonfruit for sale. Do check out my food blog for some other interesting stuffs about dragonfruit there. They have a cafe there for you to enjoy freshly cooked, organic meals as well!

Cameron Highland Excursion (Part V)

June 22, 2007 by Sleeping Princess

This is my last Cameron post. You can breathe a sigh of relief now.

strawberry

Strawberries are the only food plant that I know growing in Cameron. The rest way just surprises! Most of the food plants that I saw was just new to me. Yes, I am that suaku.

lemon tree

Potted lemon trees. Those lemons are a tad too green that they blended in with the rest of the leaves.

lemon tree

Better? Yellow lemons, just like how you know them.

bergamot

And this misshapen lemon bergamot. They are called the Buddha’s palm fruit in Chinese. I wonder how do they taste?

mint leaves

Mint leaves grows on the ground, just like grasses. I wonder if we could get mint flavoured milk if we feed the cow mints leaves. Ahaks, I know, lame.

baby carrots
Baby carrots!

So, these posts (I,II,III,IV,V, scones, durians, strawberries, watercress) pretty much sums up my trip to Cameron Highland. If you are a plant lover, that place is a heaven, I tell you. Go with a lorry to cart back all those plants. Even mum bought a few small potted plants, and saying from someone who doesn’t really do a lot of gardening, it is quite impressive. Besides that, the fresh veggies are a steal, but choose carefully to avoid being a lulu. In all, it was a great family trip, thanks dad.

cacti

Yeah, I am not done with my Cameron stuffs yet. Despite thriving in harsh climates, cacti in Cameron was a beautiful sight. Small potted cacti are selling for a reasonable price there, and with such beautiful neon coloured flowers, I couldn’t resist but… to snap a few more shots of them.

cactus

So teh colourful!

cacti

Phallic shaped cacti. Why aren’t they called cactuses instead? Cacti sounds so tacky.

cactus

Ball shaped cacti, with long spikes, or short thorns. Take your pick.

big cacti

The mother of cactuses cacti. They are larger than a head of cabbage.

cactus

Lotsa pokey pokey cacti!

fuzzy cactus

This fuzzy cactus is pokey too.

cactus

Chun Li styled cactus.

cactus

Just a lot of cactuses cacti.

Goodness, I can’t imagine if I accidentally slip and fall flat on some of those plants. I will turn meself into a porcupine. Didn’t buy even one cactus plant because from experience, all plants die in my hands. Guess I have the opposite of green fingers. *Shrugs*

Cameron Highland Excursion (Part III)

flower

If there is one thing in Cameron Highland is interesting, it would have to be the the plants. Beautiful flowers, with colours that seems surreal to me can be found almost everywhere in Cameron. I was farm and nursery hopping so much that I have no idea where I took which pictures, but they all look nice. Don’t you agree?

orchid

These are orchids.

flower

White flower.

flower

Orange flower.

flower

Flowers with red rims (roses?)

flower

Purple flowers.

flower

Blue flowers.

flower

Small roses?

flower bud

Purple chrysanthemum buds.

flower

Is this pink amaranth?

plant

Even more flowers that I don’t know.

colourful leaf

Not only the flowers are pretty, even the leafy shrubs are bursting with colours as well.

colourful leaf and flower

Dad keep asking us whether those plants are real or fake, because they simply look so flamboyant that it is borderline plasticky.

ti plant

Some plants are just creative, while some are downright bizarre.

weird leaf

Mum says this plant looks surreal. I said they looked like aliens.

weird plant

And this pitcher plant thingy? I was suggesting to mum that maybe we could curb the insect problems in our house by hanging a few pots of this in the porch.

plant

These grape-ish shrub are weird. The “leaves” could be separated, and they look like small grapes.

If you know what some of the plants are called, do enlighten me, lol!

Ohya, this is a part of my Cameron Highland excursion post. Check out Part I and Part II as well.

Cameron Highland Excursion (Part II)

June 13, 2007 by Sleeping Princess

Our next stop, Cameron Bharat Plantations in Ringlets. The beautiful sceneries and cooling weather makes sipping a cuppa special Cameron Valley tea on the verandah very enjoyable.

cameron valley

This is my favourite shot. The manmade waterfall and patches of tea shrubs are just so beautiful.

cameron valley

Another one.

cameron valley

A valley full of tea shrubs. Its a pity I can’t see the pickers roaming the hills with woven baskets.

cameron valley

Slopes upon slopes of tea. When I was young someone scared me, telling me that there were tigers preying on tea leaf pluckers. I forgot who was the liar.

cameron valley

The tea factory. There is a little souvenir shop loacated adjacent to the teashop selling different types of teas cured in the facotry. There is a similar teashop in Brinchang too, and if you come from Simpang Pulai you will bound to pass by the place.

Check out the first part of my excursion here.
